Hidden Safari

For this assignment, we worked with colors effecting a drawing underneath to appear hidden. We saw the effects of drawing warm colors over cool colors. We had a worksheet in our binder that helped us practice drawing animals and then we came up with different patters to put over our drawn animals that would also help camouflage the animal as well. For my project, I chose a zebra, which we had drew in blue colored pencil. After I drew my zebra, I decided to use orange, red, and yellow crayons to use for my patterns to draw over my animal. I drew circles, crossing diagonal lines, and squiggly lines for patterns to help hide my animal underneath. After I was finished my patterns, we had to write three clues on an index card to help viewers guess what my animal is before they put in the red film glasses.

Extension Activity:

For this activity that I could use in the future for my classroom, I would use something very similar where we will begin by reading a story that has different reptiles in it. Then I will have the students pick an animal they enjoyed in the story to draw and camouflage. I will have them pick three patterns of lines or shapes to draw over the three different warm colors. After they are finished with their drawings, I will have them write five sentences to describe their animal without giving away what their animal actually is. They will have their other classmates try and guess what their reptile is, by the sentences they wrote before they use the red film glasses to see if they got the animal right.
